What is Ayurveda?

An ancient system that guides us to thrive and live in harmony with nature and ourselves.

Ayurveda is a 5,000-year-old holistic system that aligns body, mind, and spirit for optimal health. Often called the “Science of Life,” this ancient healing tradition from India emphasizes balance through natural living. Yoga and Ayurveda are sister sciences. Rooted in the understanding that each individual is unique, Ayurveda tailors diet, lifestyle, and wellness practices to align with one’s constitution, the seasons, life stages, environment, and other influences.

Unlike modern medicine, which focuses on symptoms, Ayurveda addresses the root cause of imbalance while honouring individuality and interconnectedness. Through nutrition, herbal remedies, movement, breathwork, and daily rituals, it promotes vitality and longevity. By aligning with nature’s rhythms, Ayurveda restores harmony, allowing one to live with greater ease and wholeness.

My Journey with Ayurveda

I was first introduced to Ayurveda during my first Yoga Teacher Training in 2007. At the time, it felt challenging—making the changes seemed daunting (now, I always recommend starting with small steps). It wasn’t until I met Dr. Manish Trivedi, an Ayurveda doctor trained in India, that I truly fell in love with Ayurveda.

My first Panchakarma—a deep cleansing protocol for the body and mind—with Manish was profound. My mind became incredibly stable, my spiritual practice deepened, my senses sharpened, and I felt calm, steady, yet full of energy. Now, I do this practice twice a year, every year.

Experiencing true balance—physically, mentally, and spiritually—was life-changing. Many of us have never known what that deep sense of steadiness feels like. We might think it’s normal to live with anxiety, depression, a constant sense of rushing, or low energy. Even subtle imbalances—like irregular digestion, skin issues, or cracked heels in winter—can signal deeper disharmony. I once thought it was normal to endure small discomforts, like constantly clearing my throat, but Ayurveda showed me otherwise.

Now, when my energy shifts or symptoms arise, I recognize them early and adjust my Ayurvedic techniques and rituals to restore balance—especially with seasonal changes or external influences.

In a world filled with one-size-fits-all health advice and conflicting information, Ayurveda has shown me the power of a personalized, holistic approach. It has helped me cultivate a vibrant, balanced life and become more conscious of how my choices—food, lifestyle, and daily rhythms—affect my well-being.

I loved Ayurveda so much that I went on to become an Ayurveda Health Advisor (200 hours) with Hale Pule. Learning how to cook foods in a way that supports my constitution and strengthens my Agni (digestive fire) was transformative. I now integrate this wisdom into my classes and workshops, guiding others toward greater balance and vitality.

This ancient wisdom hasn’t just shaped my personal health—it has deeply influenced my teaching and my life’s purpose.
For me, Ayurveda is not just a practice; it’s a way of life.
